About BiogasAccepted

BiogasAccepted is a project co-financed by the IEE programme (Intelligent Energy Europe). It was approved in October 2007 and its total duration is 30 months since March 2010.

“Promoting Biogas in European Regions – Transfer of a Supporting Acceptance Tool for Stationary and Mobile Applications”

Increasing acceptance for biogas applications
Energy carriers play a key role in influencing international politics and they also have a significant effect on the competitiveness of national economic systems. As oil and natural gas prices keep going up, it is even more important to look for technologies to be implemented for reducing the dependency from traditional carbon fossils. Biogas is the renewable energy product of the anaerobic degradation of organic materials, e.g., animal manure, household kitchen waste and restaurant waste, waste water sludge, and plants cultivated for energy purposes. Biogas production and utilization has been already used in several European countries and best practices have already been identified. However, there is still a strong effort to be made to promote knowledge about biogas production or uses and transferring such best practices across the EU Member Countries is needed.

BIOGASACCEPTED creates tools for increasing biogas acceptance by the general public as well as for addressing regional actors and consumers, plant operators, neighbors and local politicians. Recent and planned biogas projects will be supported in Austria, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Slovakia and Spain. Using tools, such as public presentations discussions, disputes and round tables, the project and its results will strengthen the interaction among local authorities and the citizens.

Expected Results

  • A standardised tool for increasing biogas acceptance on the web-site in English and 6 partner countries’ national languages. This tool provides a cost-effective solution with the aim of accelerating market orientation and market growth.
  • Online Tool for biogas plant operator: types of biogas application precisely technically defined and applicable in selected 6 regions
  • On-line evaluation, manuals and application recommendations
  • A handbook for regional biogas integration policy will comprise the experiences and results of the project activities (application of the acceptance promoting tool, discussions, round tables, SWOT analysis) and is targeted at European policy makers.
  • Increased acceptance and use of renewable energies at the local level
